Yes. Maybe he tried to join her team because he wanted to impress her or something like that. But he failed miserably! Mariah sure did chew him out for losing.

Yeah me too! Back on topic though, I think this guy was shown to lose because perhaps they wanted to show how hard it was to join the White Tigers.

From my research into it Bruce was trying to get into the White Tigers to prove his worth as a fantastic beyblader. From what i can tell Lee wasn't that bothered about Bruce and didn't really care if he made it or not but Mariah kind of took over and decided to be a judge on his abilities on whether he was able to make it.
Afterall Mariah is a very strong-headed character
